Hey, That’s God’s Voice!
I start to tell her that it wasn’t God’s voice she was hearing, but then I stop myself.
What if it was? Why did she think it was God’s voice? Does she even know what His voice sounds like? How could she, she’s only five.
I had been in the kitchen getting things ready for dinner. Worship music was playing in the living room and Anna was sitting at the dining room table, quietly coloring and singing along. It was one of those times where it felt like everything was perfect; our home was a quintessential Hallmark commercial. Unfortunately it didn’t last long.
Anna started yelling something. At first I couldn’t make out what she was saying, but then I heard it.
“Hey, that’s God’s voice!”
I didn’t really understand what she meant until I heard the song that was playing. It was Matt Redman’s “Bless The Lord.” It still didn’t click until I happened to think of Kyrgyzstan. We were there a few weeks ago to help teach young believers how to be bold in their faith and Anna got to go with us. Her favorite part was when we had worship together and this was one of the songs that we sang. She loved it so much that she sang it all the time while we were there. She even continued to sing it with her daddy after we got home.
I guess I didn’t realize how much it had impacted her until this moment. Funny thing is…. she never heard this version of the song because when we sang it with the students it was just us and a guitar.
“My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me;” John 10:27 (NASB)
When she hears this song, she hears God’s voice speak to her heart. My young daughter taught me a lesson today. A lesson I didn’t even know I needed to learn.Don't underestimate the power of worship. Click To Tweet
When was the last time you heard God’s voice? Perhaps you have never heard it and that’s ok. In order to hear His voice, you need to know Him and the only way to get to know Him is to read His word, the Bible. I hope you start getting to know Him today. It’ll be the best decision you ever made. Be encouraged my sister, He loves you more than you could ever comprehend.
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Jeremiah 1:5a (NASB)
